June 14-15, 2008
Brookings Car Festival
Saturday activities include the Show-N-Shine on downtown Main Street Brookings between 4th and 5th streets from 9 AM to 5 PM. Cars and motorcycles welcome. Poker Run will leave from the downtown area at 5 PM and end up at Nick's Hamburger Shop, 427 Main Ave., Brookings. Sunday includes the 16th Annual Car Show at Pioneer Park, with registration from 9 AM to noon, and the judged car and motorcycle show from noon to 4 PM. Awards will be handed out at 4 PM. There will be "oldies" tunes playing during the show, several food vendors and door prizes for show participants.

Festival of Lights
A family holiday celebration with Live Nativity, holiday music, and SDSU trolley rides (2 to 4 p.m.) at Nick's Park, 425 Main. The Festival of Trees opens at 4 p.m. at the Community Cultural Center, 524 4th St. Activities at the Park & Rec buillding, 221 Main, include a Pizza benefit for D.A.R.E. (5 to 6 p.m.) and the Phil Baker show (5:30 to 6:30 p.m.) The Parade of Lights begins at 7 p.m., with the Community Cultural Center Festival of Trees continuing after the parade and through Dec. 9. Santa House (Santa to vacation home in downtown Brookings)
Santa Claus is setting up a temporary vacation home in downtown Brookings. He will arrive in Brookings in the 7 p.m. Parade of Lights on Nov. 29. Santa will leave his sleigh in front of Nicks Park, 425 Main Ave., and go into his Santa House to visit with area children. Letters to Santa can be dropped in his mailbox at his pre-Christmas vacation home. Santa is willing to schedule personal group visits during the morning hours the first week of December and during the afternoon hours the second week of December. Call 692-6101 to make an appointment. He will open up his vacation house to area children from 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 6. Santa’s last vacation day in downtown Brookings is on Sat., Dec. 13, from noon to 2 p.m. Enjoy a horse-drawn trolley ride while you wait to visit with Santa. Click here for more details. Doors Open Brookings
History & Garden Festival

Flea Market • Artist Studio Tour • All Doors Open Downtown

Doors Open highlights the historic and cultural assets of the community by opening the doors of historic and cultural sites to the public and adding extra activities at the various sites.
The Parks and Recreation building, 221 Main, is headquarters for all activities and is the location of the History and Garden Festival. It will feature a flea market, "Doors Unhinged!" art door display and silent auction, preservation and gardening workshops, food and giveaways. The Artist Studio Tour will feature local artists in their studios or in downtown locations. The downtown "All Doors Open" promotion will highlight downtown historic buildings and businesses.
